Sebastián González-Ramírez

I completed my PhD in Chemical Engineering at the University of Leeds in March 2026, where my research focused on designing and synthesizing asphaltene-derived carbon electrodes for the electrochemical remediation of Cs-contaminated water. During my doctoral work, I developed expertise in electrochemical systems, carbon materials synthesis, materials characterization, and analytical techniques.

While finishing my thesis, I began learning to code and became increasingly interested in using data science and AI to accelerate materials discovery, and solve problems in electrochemical systems. My current research interests are in the intersection of AI, materials science, electrochemistry and sustainability, with a particular focus on water treatment, selective lithium extraction, electrocatalysis, and water harvesting.

Beyond my scientific work, I care deeply about inclusion, the democratization of science, open access to education, and improving living conditions in Global South countries, and a large portion of the blogs and projects here will reflect these social and scientific interests. In line with this, I'm currently building a Mexican Sign Language to Spanish translation project aimed at improving access to healthcare, education, and public life for the Deaf and Hard-Of-Hearing community.

In my spare time, I enjoy learning languages. I'm currently studying Levantine Arabic, Persian, and Mexican Sign Language. =)
